Tutorial Try-Out: Easy Watercolor Portrait

I would like to start this post by thanking Carmen for suggesting I try out the Easy Watercolor Portrait tutorial at the Grow Creative blog.  It was simple, straightforward, and lots of fun...

I found the photos on pinterest. (Here, here, and here.)

I think the results were pretty cool, but I'm still playing.
(I have a feeling these watercolor portraits are just the beginning of something more...)

Did you try this tutorial?
If so, please link up below.
(I can't wait to see!)

And, be sure to read all the way to the end of this post to see what tutorial I'm trying next!

I found the next tutorial on YouTube, and since we're in portrait mode, I thought it might be fun to splash some more paint around for:

  1. I REALLY enjoyed this tutorial Kristin. Just finished it this afternoon, and I know I shall be experimenting more with it. On a bit of a high with it at the moment!
As always, your results are just outstandingly gorgeous. These ladies are lovely, and just fit in with the ladies with big hair you've been painting recently.
Thanks for the suggestion, and I have high hope for the abstract faces tutorial next.

  4. The watercolor portraits are awesome! What a terrific wall they would make with a bunch of them framed and clustered, or a stair wall -- the ones that always look so bare, but detailed things look so out of place on. Wow!

Is there a way to transfer the finished water color images to fabric? What a cool way to make a "family" quilt :)

  13. I keep many many sketchbooks and most of them hark back to student methods and are full of scraps of paper, thumbnails and lots of notes... I am starting to have some that have more complete sort of work, but I love my scrappy ones and they never fail to inspire me...
the tutorial is great as it is very close to some ideas that I have been playing with so it really helped clarify what I have been thinking and playing with... nice that it turned out that way... you must have been reading my mind!!!
